Yellowbird Habanero Cheddar Cornbread Waffles


A spicy cornbread waffle topped with blueberries and maple syrup feels like walking on sunshine. This sweet and savory combo will melt your lips and your heart.

 

Ingredients

FOR THE WAFFLES

  • 1 1/2 C. All-Purpose Flour
  • 1 C. Cornmeal, Medium Grind
  • 2 Tbsp. Sugar
  • 2 Tsp. Baking Powder
  • 2 Tsp. Baking Soda
  • 1 Tsp. Salt
  • 2 C. Whole Milk
  • 6 Tbsp. Butter, Melted
  • 2 Eggs
  • 2 C. Cheddar Cheese, shredded
  • 1/2 C. Yellowbird Habanero Condiment

FOR THE TOPPING

  • 1/4 C. Fresh Blueberries
  • 1 C. Maple Syrup

Preparation

FOR THE WAFFLES

  1. Preheat waffle iron at medium temperature.

  2. Whisk together the dry ingredients.

  3. In a smaller bowl, whisk together the milk, eggs, and Yellowbird Habanero Condiment.
     
  4. Add the wet ingredients to the dry, folding together until just combined. Don’t overmix. The batter should be shaggy versus smooth.

  5. Add in the melted butter and cheese, folding together gently.

  6. Grease the waffle maker, then add about 3/4 cup of batter for large waffles.

  7. Top with fresh blueberries and maple syrup or honey of your choice. We like Treehive—it has both ;)
